So on the 31st March 2015 I went to Sheffield
with my cousin and his girlfriend to see Olly Murs. He has been a favourite artist of mine ever
since he was on the x-factor and has been on my list of people to see for a couple
of years now, mainly fuelled by a friend from college, Amy, who loves him and
told me how good he is live! And finally I got to see him!
After what felt like a long wait boogying to the songs
playing through the arena speakers the lights finally dimmed alerting us to
Ella Eyre’s set beginning. Although the lights dimmed this didn’t happen
straight away so I turned to my cousin and began talking to be literally scared
out of my seat a few minutes later when the drummer banged his drum. Ok so he
started playing his instrument, had I been expecting it or even looking at the
stage this wouldn’t have been a problem but nope, I jumped from my seat scaring
a man who was going down the stairs at the side of me. He was ok and proceeded
to laugh at me which I, after a few minutes of calming down, did the same. So
the initial shock was over and out came Ella in what I can only describe as a
tight fitting leotard that looked very similar to a jesters outfit.
I’d love to say that I enjoyed her set and watched all of it
but I would be lying. The sound was way too high and she just didn’t sound that
great, it was the first and only time I have ever walked out when a support act
is playing to go and get merchandise. Her set finished and although not enjoying it
to begin with getting back from the merch stand and hearing a song I knew
certainly got me back into the concert mood all ready for Olly. And then came
the agonising wait for the stage to be cleared of Ella’s things and re set up
for Olly. I can’t complain too much though as the music being played was some
of my favourite artist. Then came the second diming of the lights and the
building of excitement in the crowd all anticipating Olly’s arrival on stage.
I can only describe his set as amazing, he had everyone up
on their feet, swaying along and had the whole arena singing, my favourite part
of a concert. He aptly came out to ‘Did You Miss Me?’ which I thought was
fitting. My favourite segment by far was when he slowed it down and did some
songs by the piano.
I loved this bit because you could really hear the talent,
not just from Olly himself but his backing singers too. I also really loved his
encore, never in all of the concerts I have been to have I seen an artist
reappear on stage and sing a slow song for an encore but it really worked. Then
we got the song I had been anticipating all night as it has become one of my
favourites recently ‘wrapped up’ it was so good! He’d mashed it up with ‘Treasure
by Bruno Mars’ and it just worked amazingly. I thoroughly enjoyed his concert
as he really did put on a show and will definitely be going to see him again in
the future.
