The Anomaly

Hello there,

The other night, after a long day at work, I decided all I wanted to do was chill and have a film night and rather than  a film I have watched countless times, I would look on sky movies on demand.  I was met by a vast range of choices from all different genres but decided on sci-fi thriller 'The Anomaly'.  I had no idea what the film was about before pressing play and made the decision to watch it purely based on the fact that Ian Somerholder (Damon in 'The Vampire Diaries') was one of the main characters.

Sky rated the film a 15 and warned there would be violence, strong language and sexual scenes.  After watching I could most definitely tell why as there was quite a lot of violence and strong language.  This for me was a completely different kind of film to what I would usually watch (I love Disney films and the soppy girly films more.) but regardless I pressed play and watched right till the end.

The film was certainly interesting whilst also being confusing as hell! I didn't understand much of what was going on or why but it certainly kept you gripped.  I understood enough to follow the films story and enjoyed watching it at the time. Basically the story involves a guy, Ryan, being involved in some kind of experiment in which he was being controlled by a Professor and his son.  It was some form of technology Ryan being the receiver and the professor being the transmitter which allows the professor control.  The technology however was affected by a solar storm and didn't fully work allowing Ryan 9 minutes and 45 seconds to figure out what was happening to himself and the world around him and try and stop the professor and his son from infecting the nation, whilst also trying to undo his wrong doings whilst under control.

It was a good film and kept me gripped right until the end as I wanted to see if Ryan could figure everything out.  However I don't see myself reaching for the remote to watch it again.  Maybe its because its not my usual type of film or that I didn't really understand what was happening but I can not see it become one of my vastly played films.  I think I'll stick to Disney for a while.

Bucket List

Hello there,

In my first blog post I mentioned that the reason for starting this blog now was because I had created a list of things that I want to achieve by 2020, a bucket list if you will, and what better way to find out more about a person then to look at their goals and what they want to achieve so here goes.

It’s supposed to be 15 things to do before 2020 but I can only get to 11 and they aren’t really in any order.

1.       Learn to drive- this one’s pretty self-explanatory but it’s something that I need to do and as of yet haven’t had the confidence to do.
2.       Own a car- again pretty simple but when I learn I’m going to need a car to get to places.
3.       Have a job with guaranteed hours- another simple self-explanatory one.  I do work but only on a supply basis, if someone calls in sick or is on holiday. If only money grew on trees right?
4.       Go abroad- a lot of people when they find this out think I’m odd, I’m 19 and have never visited another country.  I was supposed to but got chicken pox a few days before we were due to fly out and was told I couldn’t go, bye bye holiday in Spain!
5.       Meet Ameerah- this one is something very close to me and will hopefully happen next year. Ameerah is one of my best friends, we started talking because of our mutual interest in the boy band The Wanted and have pretty much talked nonstop for 4 years now but due to us living quite literally opposite ends of the country have never been able to actually meet.
6.       See Sam Smith live- I have many people on my list of who I want to see live but recently Sam Smith has topped it, I feel his songs are so beautifully written and his voice is equally as beautiful and if he tours near me I will most definitely be going!
7.       Watch every episode of Friends- I love this TV series and a year or so ago purchased the box set promising myself that I would watch every single episode in order. This one is a work in progress as I have watched the first 6 episodes only another 230 to go (if google is correct).
8.       Do the race for life- another one very close to my heart. I’ve had family members suffer from cancer and unfortunately pass away from cancer so it is something that I have always wanted to do.
9.       Learn sign language- again something that I have always wanted to learn. Whilst a member of St John Ambulance I learnt the finger spelling alphabet and whilst working in various nurseries I have picked up small bits, such as good morning everyone, but I would like to learn more.
10.   Own a Polaroid camera- I love to take photos, a little snapshot of a memory what could be better? And a Polaroid camera is just something I’ve always thought would be fun, taking a photo and having it instantly, no ordering, no editing or retaking that’s it you have that photo in your hand and that makes me smile.
11.   Start a blog- well we all know I can cross this one off the list because here we are!
12.    ?
13.     ?
14.    ?
15.    ?

So what about you? Have you got a bucket list? And I’ll keep you updated hopefully I’ll do them and find things for the last 4 J

Never Been Better Tour

Hello there,

So on the 31st March 2015 I went to Sheffield with my cousin and his girlfriend to see Olly Murs.  He has been a favourite artist of mine ever since he was on the x-factor and has been on my list of people to see for a couple of years now, mainly fuelled by a friend from college, Amy, who loves him and told me how good he is live! And finally I got to see him!

After what felt like a long wait boogying to the songs playing through the arena speakers the lights finally dimmed alerting us to Ella Eyre’s set beginning. Although the lights dimmed this didn’t happen straight away so I turned to my cousin and began talking to be literally scared out of my seat a few minutes later when the drummer banged his drum. Ok so he started playing his instrument, had I been expecting it or even looking at the stage this wouldn’t have been a problem but nope, I jumped from my seat scaring a man who was going down the stairs at the side of me. He was ok and proceeded to laugh at me which I, after a few minutes of calming down, did the same. So the initial shock was over and out came Ella in what I can only describe as a tight fitting leotard that looked very similar to a jesters outfit.

I’d love to say that I enjoyed her set and watched all of it but I would be lying. The sound was way too high and she just didn’t sound that great, it was the first and only time I have ever walked out when a support act is playing to go and get merchandise.  Her set finished and although not enjoying it to begin with getting back from the merch stand and hearing a song I knew certainly got me back into the concert mood all ready for Olly. And then came the agonising wait for the stage to be cleared of Ella’s things and re set up for Olly. I can’t complain too much though as the music being played was some of my favourite artist. Then came the second diming of the lights and the building of excitement in the crowd all anticipating Olly’s arrival on stage.

I can only describe his set as amazing, he had everyone up on their feet, swaying along and had the whole arena singing, my favourite part of a concert. He aptly came out to ‘Did You Miss Me?’ which I thought was fitting. My favourite segment by far was when he slowed it down and did some songs by the piano.

I loved this bit because you could really hear the talent, not just from Olly himself but his backing singers too. I also really loved his encore, never in all of the concerts I have been to have I seen an artist reappear on stage and sing a slow song for an encore but it really worked. Then we got the song I had been anticipating all night as it has become one of my favourites recently ‘wrapped up’ it was so good! He’d mashed it up with ‘Treasure by Bruno Mars’ and it just worked amazingly. I thoroughly enjoyed his concert as he really did put on a show and will definitely be going to see him again in the future.

New To This...

Hello there,

I’m Leigh and as you can tell by the title I'm new to blogging. I’ve thought about starting a blog for quite some time now (2 years to be precise) and have decided that today is the day I should begin, why? I have written a bucket list of things to do before 2020 (when I turn 25) and writing a blog is on there so why not? I’ve always enjoyed writing and this seemed a fantastic way to carry on with it.

I admit I’m not the most interesting of people I’m not at uni nor do I have a raging social life but there have been many things over the years which I thought someone out there in this world might be interested in that so here goes a blog to share my thoughts and experiences on this crazy ride we call life. Expect many posts about concerts, as I love a good concert, posts about books, who doesn’t love a good read? And well my rambling about things that mean something to me and hey who knows I might even be interesting!
